Privacy Policy for Signal Atlas

1. Data Stored Only on Your Device

The app stores the following in a local database on your phone. We have no server; none of it is transmitted to us or anyone else by the app:

• Buildings, floors, floor sizes, floor-plan images (chosen or traced by you)
• Signal measurements: Wi-Fi network names (SSID/BSSID), signal strength (dBm), channel, band, link speed; mobile carrier, network type and signal strength
• Your position within your floor plan (metres from a corner of the plan — not geographic coordinates), step counts and headings used to move the on-screen marker
• Settings such as stride length and whether camera tracking is enabled

You can delete any of it at any time: swipe a building away, use "Reset scans", or uninstall the app, which removes everything.

2. Permissions and Why the App Asks for Them

• Location — Android requires location permission for any app that reads Wi-Fi network information. The app uses it solely to read nearby Wi-Fi details while you scan. It does not track, record or upload your geographic location.
• Physical activity — counts your steps to move the "you are here" marker while you walk. Processed on-device only.
• Camera (optional, off by default) — if you enable camera tracking, the camera image is used on-device by Google Play Services for AR (ARCore) to track your movement. The app does not record, store or transmit camera images.
• Notifications — shows scan progress while a scan runs.
• Phone state — reads mobile network type and carrier name to label mobile-signal measurements.

3. Advertising (the One Thing That Is Not Local)

The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob is a third-party service and may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising ID), coarse device/network information and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses data from partner apps. You can reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalisation in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.

4. Camera and ARCore

Camera-based tracking uses Google Play Services for AR (ARCore). ARCore processes camera images on-device to estimate motion; Google describes its handling of AR data in the Google Privacy Policy. Signal Atlas itself never stores or uploads camera imagery.

5. Data Sharing

The app shares data only when you choose to — e.g. using the share button to export a coverage image or analytics summary to another app. Apart from AdMob (above), we do not share, sell or transmit your data to anyone.

6. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

7. Security and Retention

Data lives in your phone's private app storage, inaccessible to other apps. Very old scan snapshots are automatically pruned after 180 days. Everything is deleted when you uninstall the app.

8. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
