Terms of Service for Lanly

Effective: 13 September 2026 · Version 1.1 | Privacy Policy

1. Acceptance

These terms govern your use of the Lanly Android application (the “App”) provided by Latent Divergence Studios (“we”, “us” or “our”). By installing or using the App you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. What Lanly Provides

Lanly is a local-network controller for compatible smart lights. It finds supported devices on your Wi-Fi, lets you name and group them, and sends control commands to them directly. It requires no account. Control of your lights happens entirely on your own network; the only other connections the App makes are to Google AdMob for adverts and to Google Play for the ad-free purchase, as described in sections 5 and 6.

3. Device Compatibility

Lanly speaks the local-control protocols published by third-party device manufacturers. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of Yeelight, Xiaomi, WLED, Shelly or any other manufacturer, and those names are used only to identify compatible hardware.

Support levels are stated in the App. Integrations marked Beta have not been validated against that manufacturer's physical hardware and may not work, may work partially, or may stop working after a firmware update. Manufacturers may change or withdraw local control at any time, which can disable features through no act of ours. Compatibility is not guaranteed for any particular device.

4. Requirements for Use

You are responsible for your own network and hardware. Lanly needs your phone and your lights to be on the same network, with client-to-client traffic permitted, and for local control to be enabled on the device where the manufacturer requires it. Guest networks and access-point isolation will prevent the App from working.

5. Adverts

The App is free and is funded by full-screen adverts supplied by Google AdMob. An advert is shown at most once every fifteen minutes, only when you return to your list of lights, and never while a bulb setup is in progress. We do not choose which adverts you see; Google selects them, and advertisers are responsible for their own content. If an advert is unlawful or breaches Google’s policies, report it to Google through the controls shown on the advert itself.

Where the law requires it, Google’s consent form is shown before any advert is requested, and you may reopen it at any time from Settings. What the advertising SDK receives is set out in the Privacy Policy.

We may change the frequency or format of adverts, or stop showing them, in a future version of the App.

6. Removing Adverts: the In-App Purchase

The App offers a single one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase that removes adverts permanently. It grants no other feature: every function of the App is available without paying.

The purchase is sold and processed by Google Play, not by us. Price, taxes, payment method and currency are handled by Google, and the price shown in the App is the price Google quotes for your region. The entitlement is attached to your Google account, so it applies on any device signed in to that account, and reinstalling restores it — Settings ▸ Restore purchase simply asks Google Play again.

Refunds. Because Google is the seller, refunds are governed by the Google Play Terms of Service and Google’s refund policy, and are requested through Google Play. We cannot issue a refund ourselves. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

If the App is discontinued, or if a change in Google Play’s billing arrangements ends the purchase, we will not be able to reinstate an entitlement that Google no longer recognises.

7. Responsible Use

Use Lanly only on networks and devices you own or are authorised to control. Do not use it to scan, probe or control equipment belonging to others. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you.

8. Safety and Suitability

Lanly is a convenience utility for household lighting. It is not designed for and must not be relied upon for safety, security, medical, emergency, industrial or any other critical purpose. Do not use it where a light failing to switch on or off could cause harm or loss.

9. Setting Up a Bulb

The setup feature sends Wi-Fi credentials you enter to a factory-reset bulb over that bulb's own temporary setup network. You choose whether the App remembers those credentials; if you do, they are encrypted with a key held by your phone's Android Keystore. You are responsible for the credentials you enter and for the devices you choose to join to your network.

10. Your Content and Device

Names, rooms and favourites you create stay on your phone. We do not receive them and cannot recover them for you. Clearing the App's storage or uninstalling the App removes them.

11. Intellectual Property

The App, its name and its branding are owned by Latent Divergence Studios. These terms grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on devices you control. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, redistribute or sell the App except where that right cannot be excluded by law.

12. Availability and Changes

We may update, change or discontinue the App or any of its features. Updates are distributed through Google Play under Play's terms.

13. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the App will work with any specific device, firmware version or network configuration.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Latent Divergence Studios is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the App. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the App, which for a free app may be nothing.

15. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your licence if you breach these terms.

16. Governing Law, Severability and Entire Agreement

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in effect. Together with the Privacy Policy, these terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App.
